SAVE THE PLANET FROM unnecessary LANDFILL and

$AVE MONEY U$ING RECHARGEABLE BATTERIE$

MY RATIONALE ...

The use of rechargeable batteries (NiMH not NiCad) can save you substantial amounts of money.  There are some caveats - especially in wireless mic systems.

  • Since most are 1.2v for an AA cell or 7.2v for a 9v cell they run out of their ability to power a transmitter at about 2/3rd the life you get from good industrial Alkaline cells ( so instead of 5-8 hours we get  3-5 hours)
  • They need to be recharged

The good news is that in our systems that means they are still good for a full 2 act show with out much risk.

We rent a set of 32 AA NiMH batteries with a 16 slot intelligent charger for $25 for the week ($3 per additional day)

EXAMPLE 1

  1. you rent an 8 channel AA powered system for a week.
  2. you do 2 tech rehearsals and 4 shows
  3. you replace batteries before each use (and we supply the set for the first tech)

This means you need to buy 5 additional sets of batteries - thats 80 good alkaline AAs at say $0.30-$0.50 each for a total of $24.00 - $40.00

Rental is $25 for the same period and we give you 2 sets per channel for fast change over in case of emergencies or if you have a matinee and evening show.

SAVING$ - $24.00 to $40.00 less $25 = $1 more to $15.00 less and we put 96 less used batteries into landfill!

EXAMPLE 2

  1. you rent an 24 channel AA powered system for 2 week.
  2. you do 3 tech rehearsals and 8 shows
  3. you replace batteries before each use (and we supply the set for the first tech)

This means you need to buy 10 additional sets of batteries - thats 480 good alkaline AAs at say $0.30-$0.50 each for a total of $144.00 - $240.00

Rental is $138 for the same period and we give you 2 sets per channel for fast change over in case of emergencies or if you have a matinee and evening show.

SAVING$ - $144.00 to $240.00 less $138 = $6 less to $96.00 less and we put
528 less used batteries into landfill!

The more shows and rehearsals you have the better the savings and the less landfill we use up.

12 CHANNEL AA NIMH BATTERY CHARGER AND BATTERIES

  • 48 AA NiMH Cells
  • 2x 16 AA Intelligent Charger

$37.50/7 days

$3.75 per day

Benefits of Rechargeable Batteries

Save Money:

  • When used properly, rechargeable batteries can be used hundreds or even thousands of times!
  • They do cost more initially, but can definitely pay for themselves over time.

Conserve Resources:

  • Because rechargeables can be used over and over, fewer batteries need to be manufactured (and transported) than with single use varieties.
  • In fact, rechargeable batteries consume up to 23 times less non-renewable natural resources than disposable batteries.

Protect the Environment:

  • Most people don’t realize the extent of single use batteries’ environmental impacts.
  • Heavy metals, corrosive materials, and other nasty chemicals combined with (all-too-common) improper disposal spells bad news for the environment.
  • But rechargeables have 28 times less impact on global warming, 30 times less impact on air pollution, 9 times less impact on air acidification, and 12 times less impact on water pollution!
  • Check out this study for more details about environmental impacts and savings.

Performance:

  • Many of today’s rechargeables actually last longer on a single charge than their disposable counterparts, especially in high-drain devices.

Disadvantages of Rechargeable Batteries

Recharging:

  • Obviously, rechargeable batteries will need to be recharged. If you’re used to just grabbing single use batteries and popping them in, recharging can initially seem like a bit of a hassle.
  • Having backups helps ensure you won’t be left powerless waiting for your batteries to juice up.

Self-Discharge:

  • Some self-discharge can be expected, meaning you may need to charge batteries before their initial use and after storing for any length of time.
  • Opt for pre-charged versions and again, be sure to keep those backups charged.
